The latest new tech innovation is the combination of 3 Kinects and Oculus Rift which import a 3D representation into virtual reality.
So how do they interact with each other and how the result is being seen? The Kinect’s video stream is merged before being fed into the Oculus Rift headset, giving the impression of a solid 3D object. In this case the “leading actor” is Mr Kreylos who is seen sitting in a virtual office.
The three Kinects for Microsoft Xbox are positioned in an equilateral triangle so as to accurately capture the subject, whose image is then beamed into Facebook’s Oculus Rift headset.
Mr Kreylos is free to control the camera in such a way that he is able to see himself from 1st person and 3rd person perspective.
To Mr Kreylos’s mind the low quality of image does not affect negatively so it still feels very real.
Even the low quality of images has its role. The atmosphere is designed in lifelike fashion. The fuzzy 3D video is more believable to the brain than high quality avatars.
